Standardizing and Consolidating Hardware Allows for Cost Savings

gCLOUD3’s gPLATFORM is built upon Citrix XenServer and allows for many virtual machines to operate on a single hardware server, cutting costs in hardware and energy. XenServer is an enterprise-class, cloud proven virtualization platform that delivers critical foundation the gPLATFORM needs to host all Windows and Linux guest operating systems.

The true bare metal hypervisor is a based upon open source Xen. It is a small Linux install that allows for allocating dedicated resources from each of the virtual machines, such as CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. This allows a physical server to simultaneously support many virtual machines.

XenServer emulates hardware for the guest operating systems. For virtual servers and desktops, hard disks are emulated in a special container and are stored as system files on the primary storage pool. ISO images can be mounted as CD/DVD drives. Sound card is also emulated and allows for remote sound playback on the thin client device accessing the virtual desktop. Virtual network cards are emulated and can be shared on a single physical network interface card. XenServer is included on every gVIRTUAL and gBACKUP.
